At the University of Lynchburg, the dining etiquette dinner was met with astounding success, with the guests both loving the food and the learning opportunities the event had to offer.

Dining Guest Erin Smith said, “ …I am a very picky eater…[but] I enjoyed everything that they cooked. I learned how I should eat…what jokes we could make…and how to handle food.”

Career and Opportunities Center Staff Member Will Kasemeyer had this to add, “ …First impressions are important when it comes to impress[ing] new employers…the best way to impress your employer is just to know which fork to use…”

Not only was the food and learning opportunities enjoyable, though, but the dining etiquette event itself also proved as good networking chances with not only fellow students but also with the other Career and Opportunities Center Staff. Thus allowing students to better connect with the university workers that could best ensure a students’ success in finding and gaining jobs both in their present and future career adventures as they navigate college.

That being said, though, there were a few complaints about the dining etiquette dinner. None of the complaints were serious, but it was small things that students thought could help improve the event as a whole. After all, it is better to take critique and implement it on a trail run than to never try the suggestion at all, especially from those who attend the event themselves.

Speaking of which, Erin had this small proposal, “…Make it a little more interactive…I wish they gave us more prompts [for discussion]…”

Despite these gripes, though, most if not all students that attended the event found it wonderful and were more than willing to go to the event again if they had not already.

Erin mentioned this, “I think if anyone is questioning…should they go…I say yes. Showing your interested in furthering yourself and your education…is very important.”

Will stated, “…It’s a very educational experience and I think everyone should sign up for it…”
